Supporting Students:
The Future of our Profession

The Philadelphia SHRM Chapter recognizes the importance of having strong relationships with local undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in a human resources program or a program in a related area. Students represent the future of our profession and SHRM is committed to nurturing these prospective HR leaders by providing professional development and networking opportunities for them.

In addition to providing annual merit scholarships to an undergraduate and graduate student, Philadelphia SHRM welcomes students to join the chapter for free and for no charge avail themselves of our quarterly newsletter, the Philadelphia SHRM News, and monthly professional development meetings on cutting edge human resource issues. Membership offers students the opportunity to supplement their classroom education with real-world knowledge, hands-on experience, and a network of HR colleagues who can assist them with career planning and employment contacts.

Upon request, Philadelphia SHRM will solicit members for internship opportunities and for classroom speaking engagements at their colleges and universities as another way to bridge academic learning with practical workplace HR practices and challenges.

Philadelphia SHRM members also support students by volunteering at the regional HR Student Games. The HRGames are a fun way to motivate and prepare students for PHR certification. The HRGames consist of a series of game show style matches, between teams of up to three undergraduate students from various colleges and universities. The HRGames are an event that offers the opportunity to bring professional chapter volunteers, students and student chapter advisors together in a meaningful way.

PHR/SPHR Study Group sessions are sponsored by Philadelphia SHRM at no cost to its members and are open to all Philadelphia SHRM members and Temple and Villanova HR students who are preparing to sit for the PHR exam.

Philadelphia SHRM brings together HR practitioners, students, and academic faculty members to learn from each other to enhance current and future human resource management.
