Small Group Focused Session I

Session Title: Understanding Generations at Work

Session Description: The nature of today’s workforce has changed dramatically over the past fifteen years. Presently there are two distinct generations occupying almost all organizational positions. The older generation, the Baby Boomers, are the policy makers and decision makers in most organizations. The younger generation are termed Generation X. They have come on board and are learning the ropes, performing the work. The future depends on them.  This interactive roundtable session will explore the behavioral differences and similarities of this multi-generational workforce. By recognizing this, leaders  will be able to attain greater team cohesion and respond to two different sets of needs and values.

You will walk away with ways to:

  • explore the Facts and Myths about Baby Boomers and Gen X-ers
  • identify actions that can help you dispel these Facts and Myths
  • discuss strategies for ensuring high productivity in this culture
  • gain insights, strategies and skills that help minimize generational conflict.

Small Group Focused Session II

Session Title: Diversity and Early Career Leadership: Setting the Stage for Success

Session Description:Every business seeks to create a secure foundation for its future. Many have realized that establishing a link between the workforce of today and the workforce of tomorrow is one of the most effective methods of assuring future success.  Businesses that achieve greater access to ethnically diverse talent through early identification and continuous leadership development of outstanding students have a distinct advantage.  Through unique leadership development processes, these companies develop tomorrow’s workforce- employees who can contribute to meeting the bottom-line. This interactive session will closely examine the best practices of these companies, exploring the benefits of early identification, mentorship, and career development plans, as some of the key elements of success in this diversity strategy.

Small Group Focused Session III

Session Title: The Nuts & Bolts of Hiring Foreign Nationals: Issues that Arise When Building a Diverse Workforce

Session Description: The demand for skilled employees in today's workforce is exceeding the supply.  America's workforce is aging; and in fields such as science, technology, engineering and math, the availability of talented workers is scarce.  These trends indicate the need for employers to explore strategies to tap into the immigrant workforce and leverage the diversity within this talent pool.  Hiring foreign nationals can provide a solution to this predicament while offering a myriad of benefits to the organization and the surrounding community.

However, the benefits of hiring foreign nationals is often overshadowed by a maze of changing rules and regulations, compliance issues, and the ever-increasing risk of government audits.  Although the process of hiring foreign nationals can be intimidating, it is a manageable and rewarding process for those institutions that invest the time to learn the ropes.

Attendees of this workshop will:

  • Learn various employer-sponsored visas;
  • Learn about the costs and timelines involved in the processing of visas;
  • Develop an awareness of compliance issues that arise when hiring foreign nationals;
  • Discuss the need and/or implementation of acculturation services for foreign national employees (ie. cross-cultural training and ESL)

Large Group Focused Session

Session Title: Let the Dialogue Begin - Setting the Stage for Transformational Change

Session Description: We will explore the techniques used by world class organizations to set the stage for culture shifts and adaptation to new, creative and innovative approaches that ensure the organizations’ competitive edge in an ever changing global marketplace.  These types of culture shifts are transformational and the changes associated with them are immediate, impacting and important.  This session holds the mirror of transformational change to the question of diversity and inclusion, and using highly interactive dialogue and exercises challenges participants to grow as professionals and as people to help their organizations be change ready, and ultimately to meet the challenges of today’s professional landscape.
